Laser in the industrial field; It is used in cutting, drilling, marking, welding and surface treatment applications. On a sectoral basis; automotive, defense industry, heavy industry applications come first.
It should be known that micro-drilling processes, which are difficult to do mechanically on polymer or plastic-based materials, have been achieved with these innovative applications in industrial lasers in recent years. Especially in multi-layer manufacturing, the industrial laser micro-hole punching method is gaining in importance for Industry 4.0.
Laser weapons, which have become widespread in defense industry examples in the world with R&D activities, work with the basic principle of destroying the target by focusing its energy on a distant target. These are called "Directed Energy Weapons". directed energy weapons; It has lightning-fast engagement, repetitive and theoretically unlimited firing capability, accuracy, and invisibility, which greatly affects its power multiplier.
The beginning of Turkey's laser weapon systems projects; "Completing the need analysis for the development of a Laser Weapon System" in the I. 100-Day Action Program of the Presidency and II. In the 100-Day Action Program, the items of "Establishment of the administrative structure of the Laser Center of Excellence and determination of the program model for the development of the Laser Weapon System" are included.
Turkey's laser weapon systems are grouped under two main headings. These are Laser Target Marking Systems and Directional Infrared Countermeasure weapons. Some of the projects that are being worked on in our country are as follows;
- High Power Laser System (YGLS) - ASELSAN, TUBITAK, Bilkent University,
- Laser Defense System (LSS) Project - ASELSAN,
- IŞIN High Power Laser System - TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, ASELSAN, TÜBİTAK MAM, TÜBİTAK UME, Bilkent University,
- Rifle-Mounted Laser Weapon (TÜBİTAK) - TÜBİTAK,
- Vehicle Mounted Laser System (ARMOL) - TÜBİTAK BİLGEM,
- Laser Anti Drone System (LaDRONS) - SAVER.
